Look what I did today!

Today I woke up in the mood to quilt. I already had the backing pinned on so all I had to do was load the top on and get going. I did a BIG meander and got done fast! I had about 280 inches of binding already made from coffee quilt #1. I usually always over estimate the amount of binding I will need - by a lot, obviously! I went ahead and added 40 more inches just to be safe. Got it all machined on by about 1 p.m. Even the label is on!!! Since I have no patience as far as giving gifts, especially really good gifts, I went ahead and gave it to DH. He loves it, especially when he saw that I had used all the coffee scraps in it. He also likes the name - "Leftover Coffee". DH usually makes one or two pots of hot coffee per week. The rest of the week he drinks the leftovers as iced coffee. This is where the name comes from and the fact that I was able to use up most of my leftover coffee fabric scraps.

I have heard from a lot of people about my NO-BUY resolution for the new year. See yesterday's post if you have no idea what I am talking about. So far it looks like Joanne, Judy, Sharon, Finn and me are ready to take the no-buy vow. Not sure what would happen if we did buy something "illegal". Maybe that's where the quilt police come in to play! Anyone else want to join us?

  1. The quilt looks great and that's wonderful that your hubby appreciates it (early even - bad you).
Good to see people joining you in your "no buy" policy but I won't be. If I find something I LOVE it's mine. Over the last few years I've gotten much better about buying things I will actually use tho and I don't buy like a crazy woman any more. Good luck to ya tho.

  3. WOW!! It looks great! And I"m with you on the no-buy. And even if I CAN buy backings, borders, sashings, and other legal things, I am determined still to let them live at the store until I need them for an IMMEDIATE use!

  5. You bad, bad, bad, little Elf, you! Welcome to the ranks of Elves who can't wait to give or receive presents! LOL! It's so hard to give my hubby his REAL present on Christmas Eve because I've drug out all the other ones almost a day or two after buying them!

  6. I like the left-over coffee quilt!

I don't have enough control to enter into a no-buy year.... I am too weak when I see cute cat fabrics...... (I have tried to no-buy & failed miserably in the past...) I will however minimize my buying... no more "willy nilly" & good deal purchases.

  8. Okay, after gathering 4 boxes of loose fabric from around the sewing room and seeing at least that much more to be boxed up I've decided maybe I do need to accept your no-buy challenge for next year. So I guess I'm in.

Except cat fabric! Those are something specific I collect just as you might collect china tea cups so I will not consider them to be off limits.

  9. I will join you in a modifed version of "no buy." I don't have a big stash yet, but I can tell the potential is there.

I'm not buying any fabric collections, random fat quarters or fabric without a specific purpose. That's been so hard this last week as I get "sale" email with good buys for the holidays.

Your quilt is so wonderful. It's rich, masculine and classy.

  10. love the quilt... the colours are so rich.

I briefly entertained your no-buy challenge, however I've decided that part of my fun is fabric shopping. Instead I will go shopping no more than 1X per month, and with a set amount of cash in hand -- no credit cards...
